The Ironmag 911

Version 0.1 :: Last updated on August 25, 2004 11:42 PM

Compatibility
All pages/documents within the Ironmag L.L.C. website follows XHTML 1.0 and CCS2 specifications developed by W3 to ensure future compatibility.
Since most browsers don't interpret W3's specifications 100% correct, there will always be minor bugs (mostly positioned related). I have therefore concentrated my efforts on making the code as close to W3's specifications as possible and, where needed, implemented hacks to correct as many bugs as possible on the most popular web browsers.
Please note that the entire website is coded by me alone, so there will probably be some bugs left. If you encounter one, please let me know (I'm a writer and designer by heart, not a programmer).
Ironmag has been tested with Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer +6 and Opera +7.
Recommended browsers are: Mozilla Firefox and Opera +7.
Not Recommended: Any older version like Netscape (4), Opera (6), IE (5) e.t.c. Those are obsolete browsers.

Layout and design
The layout- and design goals of Ironmag are to keep it simple, yet stylish. The website should load quickly, be easy to navigate, have a clean look and the articles should be easily read without any disturbing elements.
Ironmag utilizes pure CSS Design with a 2-column layout including a header and footer. These sections are made by floating div-tags to simulate the effect of frames.

Navigation
Site navigation is done by a menu bar that simulates the behavior of regular Windows dropdown menus. The menu system is made by layers applied to an unordered list and controlled by Cascading Style Sheets (CSS2). This will ensure full compatibility with older browsers. Since Internet Explorer does not yet follow W3 specifications to a 100%, a small code of Java Script is loaded for IE to emulate correct behavior for the hover pseudo-class in a clickable expanded area.

Contents
All contents are loaded into the right column (a div) using a hidden I-frame as a buffer. To keep readability as high as possible, the maximum width of any document's text-area is set to 600 pixels and all articles have a line height of 1.33 (of normal) and a 12px font.

Reporting a bug
Since I've just re-launched Ironmag there's still a lot of work to be done. If you experience something odd when browsing Ironmag please don't hesitate to let me know. Please include the name and version of the web browser used and the nature of the bug you experienced. Send your report to: joachim.bartoll@ironmag.com

Known bugs/functions yet to be implemented
* External links open in same window. XHTML does not allow the target attribute, this will be solved by a JavaScript.
* Some documents, when loaded, will not focus properly.
